Summit, NJ is a vibrant community of about 21,000 residents, situated 20 miles west of Manhattan, and features a bustling downtown known for its unique variety of shops, restaurants, businesses, and other services. Consistently ranked in the top 20 places to live in the state by NJ Monthly magazine, Summit is a diverse city with the charm and feel of a small town but all of the amenities of a sprawling city. With hundreds of events, activities, recreational programs and teams, as well as one of the top public school districts in the state, Summit is an ideal place to raise children.
Downtown Summit has a rich variety of restaurants and shops. From pizzerias and coffee shops to fine dining and ethnic food, there is a restaurant for every taste and occasion. There is also always something happening in Summit. Whether it's the farmers market or a street fair, a movie on the Village Green or holiday celebration, there are events for residents of all ages.
With a very active arts culture that encompasses both the performing and visual arts, there are a number of places and resources for individuals interested in music, theater, painting, sculpture, arts classes, and more. Community members also enjoy other amenities such as the Family Aquatic Center, Municipal Golf Course, and a number of parks and playgrounds for everyone to use and enjoy the outdoors. Walking along the Passaic River Trails, which run through Summit and Chatham, is another way to get outside and get moving in Summit.
