The City of Summit is announcing the formation of the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness by Summit Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD. It is a new initiative aimed at addressing the complexities of homelessness in the community with a special focus on improving safety and providing compassionate care. This comprehensive group will include members from various sectors of the community, including three members of the Common Council, representatives from Summit’s police and fire departments, non-profit organizations, residents, clergy, and the business community.

The Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness is designed to tackle the complex issue of homelessness through collaborative community efforts. Its mission is to develop effective, sustainable solutions to homelessness that enhance safety and dignity for all residents of Summit, especially those in vulnerable situations.

"Homelessness affects the security and comfort of our entire community, and the situation in our downtown has raised valid concerns among our residents," said Mayor Fagan. "The formation of this Task Force is a crucial step toward making Summit a safer, more inclusive community where everyone has access to the support they need."

Meetings of the Task Force will be held monthly.
