At the Common Council meeting tonight, reports will be shared from Mayor Nora Radest, City Administrator Michael Rogers, and Council President Greg Vartan.
Ceremonial Awards will be presented to Wallace Chapel in celebration of its 100th Anniversary and to the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad in recognition of September as First Aid Squad Month. Council will also hear a presentation from a representative of Spruce Technology, the firm that recently completed upgrades to the audio and video equipment in the Council Chamber.
Several ordinances will be introduced. The first ordinance repeals the Broad Street West Redevelopment Plan, putting the pre-existing business zoning back in place. The Planning Board is required to discuss whether that action is consistent with the Master Plan, so the hearing for that ordinance will be held on October 3, after the next regularly scheduled Planning Board meeting. Other ordinances include amending fees in the Department of Community Services, renewing the Comcast cable franchise, and several parking ordinances. All those ordinances will have a hearing at the council meeting on September 19.
Council will also consider several resolutions. As September 5 will be the final meeting for Councilmember Susan Hairston, a new President Pro Tem will be appointed. Resolutions to approve and implement an onboarding process for city volunteers, a liquor license transfer, authorization of an agreement with the Board of Education for AEDs, declaration of vacancies in the Department of Public Works and Fire Department will be considered. Several resolutions authorizing road, sidewalk, and infrastructure work will also be considered.
