Whats on the agenda newsfeed

At the Common Council meeting on Tuesday, June 20, Certificates of Recognition will be awarded to the recipients of the Louis Bay Scholarship: Isabelle Embden, Emma Vatoci, and Edward Vela.

Hearings will be held for several ordinances. The first establishes salaries for city staff and this ordinance is required after adoption of the municipal budget. The second and third are bond ordinances authorizing borrowing related to the capital improvements that were outlined in the budget as well. The fourth ordinance establishes a weight limit for the High Street Bridge; this ordinance is being requested by NJ Transit before work begins to replace the bridge. The final hearing is for an ordinance that will make administrative changes to peddler licenses for non-profits seeking donations in the Downtown.

There is one ordinance for introduction, and it will increase the parking rate in the Park & Ride lot located next to the train station. Council will also consider several housekeeping financial resolutions related to bond anticipation notes for the city, authorizing bonds for the Board of Education's previously approved capital improvements, and a salary resolution that is adopted bi-annually. Safety and Health resolutions would authorize the appointment of a police officer and volunteer firefighters.

Other resolutions to be considered are all from the Capital Projects and Community Services Committee. The first authorizes a contract extension with the service the city uses to host online auctions. The others are all grant applications including a 2023 lead grant program, 2024 Safe Streets to Transit Grant for Broad Street and Denman Place sidewalk, 2024 Transit Village program grant through the NJ DOT for signal upgrades, 2024 NJ Department of Transportation grants for road repair and pedestrian improvement projects.

Finally, council will consider one item for discussion. The topic will be a request to Union County to re-allocate grant funding that has already been awarded from a lower priority project to fund the Hobart Ave Sidewalk Project.
