The City of Summit is announcing its support of Chatham Township efforts to raise awareness of suicide prevention during its inaugural Out of the Darkness Community Walk on Saturday, September 24th from 10 AM to noon. The event will take place, rain or shine, at the Chatham High School at 255 Lafayette Avenue. Interested Summit residents can register as an individual, team, or join Team Summit by visiting the Chatham Township Community Walk website at Registration begins at 9AM.

“Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, and the 12th leading cause of death overall in New Jersey, yet suicide can be prevented,” explains Summit Mayor Nora Radest. “Hundreds of individuals from throughout Morris and Union Counties are expected to participate in the walk. I am thankful to Shaping Summit Together and the Summit Public Schools for drawing attention to the issue in our community and for participating in this event.”

Team Summit is participating in the Chatham Township Out of the Darkness Walk, one of more than 375 Out of the Darkness Community Walks being held nationwide this year. The walks are expected to unite more than 250,000 participants and raise millions of dollars for suicide prevention efforts for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.
