Provided below is a statement from Council President Mike McTernan:
December 2, 2024
Dear Summit Community:
I have been made aware that the Department of Community Programs (DCP) sent an email encouraging people to attend the informational meeting on December 4, 2024, to show public support for the installation of lights at upper and lower Tatlock fields. While the DCP and its advisory board support the project as a solution to the lack of playing fields for our youth sports programs, the email in no way should be misconstrued as an endorsement of the project by the governing body as a whole nor the City of Summit. The City will review its communication protocols in light of the email as well.
Council will address the Tatlock Field proposal in due course as public input is received and the various studies are digested. This week's meeting at the Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School is part of an ongoing process the Council is engaging in to ultimately make a decision which it believes serves the best interest for all of Summit, weighed against the impact on a specific neighborhood.
I hope everyone interested attends the meeting with an open mind to learn what the studies say, ask meaningful questions and provide feedback on the project and the studies without denigrating others or their opinions.
Regards,
Mike McTernan
