Volunteer for Fire Dept.
Mission
The volunteer division is a vital arm of the Summit Fire Department, providing additional personnel to supplement the City’s career force at a variety of emergency incidents.
The division has 4 volunteer companies:
First of all it takes someone with courage and dedication, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges. In addition to physical qualifications, a recruit must complete Firefighter I, an extensive training program to gain basic firefighting skills. There is also an additional requirement for training on 2 Monday evenings per month to keep those skills sharp. These training sessions are applied to the requirement of 10 hours of riding time, as well as occasional specialized training, that we ask all our volunteers to complete.
