A message from the City of Summit Division of Public Works: Wet cardboard and paper is basically useless when it comes to recycling. Water weakens the fibers and decreases its value, which is why many recycling plants will reject soggy cardboard and paper. If you think it is going to rain overnight (like it did last night), it is best to wait until morning to take out recycling. And if it is still raining, put your paper and cardboard in a covered bin. Last night, cardboard and plastics blew into streets and clogged already filled to capacity storm drains. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
