The Summit Police Department announces the arrest of 30-year-old Henrri Bonilla of Newark in connection with the theft of three motor vehicles from Smythe Volvo over the course of approximately eight weeks in early 2025. The suspect is a former employee of the Summit dealership and, while employed, utilized his access to key fobs to effectuate the theft of the following vehicles:
- Reported on 04/15/2025 – Black 2025 Volvo EX90 approx. value $90,000.00
- Reported on 05/07/2025 – Gray 2025 Volvo EX90 approx. value $85,000.00
- Reported on 05/26/2025 – Black 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE approx. value $37,168.00
A coordinated investigation conducted by the Summit Police Department’s Detective Bureau in conjunction with the Port Authority Police Department resulted in the following charges:
- 1 count of 2c:20-10.1A – 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
- 1 count of 2c:20-10.1A – 3rd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
- 1 count of 2C:20-3A – 3rd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
- 1 count of 2C:20-7A – 3rd Degree Receiving Stolen Property
- 1 count of 2C:5-2A (1) Aux. 2C:20-3A – 3rd Degree Conspiracy to Commit Motor Vehicle Theft
Mr. Bonilla was placed under arrest, processed, served all complaint summonses, and released on his own recognizance pending his court appearance.
The three stolen vehicles have since been returned to the dealership after processing.
