The Summit Recycling Advisory Committee (RAC) is sharing information on recent updates made to the Recycle Coach app.
The free mobile app, offered to all New Jersey municipalities free of charge by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, provides accurate, up-to-date information and schedules for county and municipal recycling programs. The app has several helpful features for residents, including custom pickup reminders and a “What Goes Where?” search tool that can be used to find out how to recycle and dispose of a wide variety of materials within Summit and throughout Union County.
“RAC members and city staff have worked together over the past several months to refresh the search tool within the Recycle Coach app,” explains RAC Chair Mimi Zukoff. “I would especially like to thank RAC member George Drossinos, who spearheaded this enormous project. He went through over 100 different items that a resident might want to dispose of, and updated the search results to reflect the current, most up-to-date location where each item is accepted, whether that’s at the Summit Transfer Station, in your curbside recycling, or at a county recycling event.”
Zukoff continues: “Residents can use the search tool to find out where to recycle or dispose of everything from textiles and books to Styrofoam, paint, hazardous materials, and more. If you’re not sure how to dispose of something properly, the Recycle Coach app is a fantastic resource that’s completely free to use.”
The Recycle Coach app is available in the Apple and Google Play app stores, and more information is available on the Union County website and the Trash & Recycling page on the City of Summit website.
