The Summit Department of Community Programs will host a Black History Month celebration on Thursday, February 27, from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the Summit Community Center located at 100 Morris Avenue. The free event will feature programming for adults and children; no registration required.

Poet Rashad Wright will lead a songwriting and poetry workshop, beginning with a slam poetry performance. Attendees will analyze the writing and performance techniques used in Wright's performance, and create their own performance poems, with the opportunity to share with the group.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to discover African American history and culture through an immersive dance workshop led by acclaimed tap dancer and choreographer Maurice Chestnut. The workshop will highlight different styles of dance, from tap to jazz and hip hop, and more.

Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Please call the Summit Department of Community Programs at 908-277-2932 or email dguidajr@cityofsummit.org with any questions.
