The Summit Police Department received two reports of attempted motor vehicle thefts that occurred in the early morning on Monday, September 30. Based on surveillance footage it appears that both incidents were committed by the same actors, who were dressed in black clothing.
The first attempt occurred on Canoe Brook Parkway at approximately 3:50AM. Surveillance footage shows that a dark sedan pulled up to the residence and two unknown male actors approached a white BMW X7 in the driveway. The vehicle was unlocked and there was no key fob present in the vehicle. The actors attempted to start the vehicle but were unsuccessful; after rummaging through the vehicle they left in the dark sedan and traveled south on Canoe Brook Parkway. The suspects did not attempt to enter the Porsche that was also parked in the driveway.
The second attempt occurred on Waldron Avenue at approximately 4:07AM. Surveillance footage shows two unknown male actors exiting an unknown vehicle and approaching a Mercedes Benz in the driveway, which was locked with no key fob present in the vehicle. The actors walked up to the side entrance of the residence but did not attempt to enter.
At this time the suspect vehicle is unknown. Anyone with surveillance footage or information on these incidents is encouraged to contact the Summit Police Department Detective Bureau at 908-273-0051.
