On Wednesday, July 31, at 12:45PM, the Summit Police Department responded to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the entrance to the Tier Garage, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in Summit.
The pedestrian, a 73-year-old Summit woman, was reported to be crossing the alleyway when she was struck by a 2021 Jeep Cherokee. The driver, an 85-year-old Springfield man, was traveling east on Springfield Avenue, and turned right into the alleyway leading into the garage. The driver advised police that as he made the turn, he looked ahead to several parking spaces and did not see the victim until just before the vehicle struck her with the left front bumper/hood of his vehicle. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle.
The victim was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad for treatment.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
