The City of Summit is participating in New Jersey Local Government Week from Sunday, April 7, through Saturday, April 13. Local Government Week is a time for municipalities to bring awareness to the role local government plays in achieving the best life for communities.

There are several opportunities for citizens to participate. Summit residents are invited to enter the “Summit Through Your Eyes” photo contest and submit images of our city that showcase its beauty, uniqueness, and community spirit. The contest is open to residents of all ages. Interested parties can submit up to three photos. Submissions should be sent to pressoffice@cityofsummit.org. Submissions will be accepted beginning on Thursday, March 7, through Friday, March 29, 2024. The three winners will be notified on Tuesday, April 9, and be awarded a $50 Summit VISA Gift Card, accepted at over 150 Summit restaurants, stores, and service businesses throughout the City of Summit.

As part of a “Learn About What We Do” social media campaign, the Communications Office will share photos and videos throughout the week highlighting city departments and divisions. Photos and videos will be posted on city social media pages, the city website, and city YouTube channel.

The City of Summit will host a community forum on public safety and city services on Tuesday, April 9, from 6PM to 9PM at the Summit Community Center located at 100 Morris Avenue. Residents are invited to view displays and meet staff during the open house from 6PM to 6:30PM. At 6:30PM the Summit Police Department will give a presentation on its home security assessment program, new drone initiative, and other public safety measures. The Q&A session will begin at 7PM with city staff and local elected officials in attendance to answer questions from the public.

The winning entries from the “Summit Through Your Eyes” photo contest will be displayed at the April 9 community forum and showcased during the open house portion of the event.

“New Jersey Local Government Week is an opportunity for citizens to learn more about how local government works and how city staff and elected officials serve their community,” explains Summit Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD. “I encourage residents to join me at the public safety forum to learn about the important initiatives the police department has implemented citywide. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your ideas. We very much look forward to hearing from you.”
