Weekly blotter January 1 to January 14

01/01/2024—John O’Gorman, 19, of Summit was arrested and charged with simple assault. Mr. O’Gorman was processed and released with a pending court date.

01/03/2024—At 1237 hours a report was taken for an attempted burglary to a Springfield Avenue business. The victim stated that approximately 30 minutes prior, they arrived and noticed damage to a window. No entry was made, and nothing was reported as taken.

01/03/2024—At 1902 hours police responded to a Morris Avenue business for a report of multiple break-ins to vehicles in the parking lot. Between 1745 and 1910 hours, three vehicles were broken into and rummaged through. The driver’s side window of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler was smashed, and the vehicle was rummaged through; an unlocked 2003 SAAB and an unlocked 2015 Nissan were also rummaged through. Taken from the SAAB was the victim’s wallet which contained an ID and credit cards; no other items of value were reported stolen.

01/08/2024—At 1507 hours patrol units were dispatched to a Summit Avenue business for a report of an attempted vehicle theft. The caller stated that a gold Honda Accord entered the parking lot and parked perpendicular to a BMX X5; a passenger inside the suspect vehicle exited and approached the parked vehicle on the passenger side and attempted to gain entry but was unsuccessful. The suspect car exited the parking lot and fled the area.

01/09/2024—Jayron Stevens, 22, of Summit was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Mr. Stevens was processed and transported to Union County Jail.

01/11/2024—Jon Beresford, 51, of Toms River was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Long Hill Township. Mr. Beresford was processed and transported to Long Hill Police Department.

01/13/2024—At 1159 hours a report was taken for a burglary into an unsecured motor vehicle parked at a Karen Way residence. The victim stated that just prior to contacting police they discovered the door on the driver’s side of the vehicle was fully open and it was rummaged through. At the time of the report nothing was noted as taken.
