Summit Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Oak Ridge Avenue in the area of Primrose Place on Tuesday, December 26.

At approximately 4:21AM, three suspects exited an unknown vehicle and proceeded up the driveway to the rear of the residence where they gained access to an unlocked BMW X7.

At approximately 4:24AM one of the suspects proceeded to the front of the residence and used a pry tool to force open a locked window and gain entry to the residence. An activated home alarm woke the homeowner at which point they proceeded downstairs and observed an unknown male standing in the dining room. When the suspect saw the homeowner, he immediately fled through the open window previously used to gain entry. There was no verbal or physical interaction between the homeowner and suspect.

The Summit Police Patrol Bureau and Detective Bureau immediately responded to the scene to investigate. Video surveillance did not provide a suspect vehicle description; however, preliminary reports indicated they may have been operating a dark colored SUV. Surveillance footage revealed that all three suspects were wearing dark colored clothing, masks, and gloves during the incident.

It was later determined that no items were taken from the vehicle or residence and that access to vehicle key fobs was the primary motive for the burglary.

Information shared through local, county, and state law enforcement entities suggests that although high-end vehicles continue to be a prime target for criminals, several models of BMWs, including the X series and Alpina additions, have been prioritized these last few weeks.
