At approximately 3:17AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Summit Police Department received a report of an attempted burglary at a Twombly Drive residence.

The resident was woken by suspicious noises coming from the backyard of the home. They immediately called 911 and activated the exterior lighting. Four males in dark clothing were observed running from the backyard to the street. They entered a waiting 2022 white Audi Q5 that fled the scene toward Ashland Road.

Responding police units intercepted the suspect vehicle and initiated a pursuit traveling east on Ashland Road and Morris Avenue. They were forced to terminate the pursuit when the suspect vehicle entered onto Route 24 eastbound.

Surveillance video from the Twombly Drive residence showed the suspects being interrupted while positioning an outdoor table under a window at the rear of the residence.

It was later learned that the suspect motor vehicle had been reported stolen in Essex County.

At approximately 8:16AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Summit Police Department received a report of a burglary at a Warwick Road residence that occurred sometime during overnight hours.

The suspects apparently entered the home through an unlocked attached garage, accessing an adjacent mud room. The victim reported that a purse and a gym bag were taken from the home. It was later learned that at approximately 4AM, the suspects fraudulently attempted to use credit cards from the stolen purse.

The Summit Police Department is investigating these incidents. Anyone with surveillance footage of possible suspects or an unknown vehicle in these areas should contact the Detective Bureau at (908) 273-0051.
