The City of Summit is announcing its transition to the Rave Mobile Safety Smart911 emergency alert system, effective immediately. Through Smart911, the city aims to enhance its emergency communications and provide a valuable tool for residents, members of the business community and first responders in emergency situations.
The new notifications system promises to deliver accurate, timely, and comprehensive alerts, tailored to fit individual needs and situations. The City of Summit previously used Swift Reach Network for emergency notifications until the system was acquired by Rave Mobile Safety. Citizens will now be required to opt-in to the new Smart911 system at https://www.cityofsummit.org/smart911 to continue to receive alerts. New subscribers should create a Smart911 profile online at https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/login.action?pa=summitnj or download the Smart911 app from the App Store or Google Play.
“Smart911 is a significant step forward in emergency communications,” explains Summit Mayor Nora Radest. “While making this change was not a choice, it is an upgrade and will enhance safety for every resident and business in Summit. I thank you for your cooperation as we transition to this new and improved emergency alert system.”
The City of Summit strongly encourages all residents and businesses to create a Smart911 profile. Having a profile not only ensures that individuals receive emergency alerts but also helps emergency services to respond more effectively by providing them with crucial medical and location information.
The City of Summit will hold a community workshop on Wednesday, October 11 from 5PM to 7PM in the Police Department lobby at City Hall for people needing assistance with Smart911 signup. A second workshop to assist seniors will be held at SAGE on Thursday, October 12 from 10AM to 11AM. A third workshop at the Summit Community Center will be scheduled in late October.
