Summit Police Department weekly blotter June 5 to June 18, 2023

6/06/2023—Adeloa Owodunni Williams, 38, of Union was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking. Ms. Williams was processed and released with a pending court date.

6/09/2023—At 0959 hours a report was taken for a theft that occurred at a Beauvoir Avenue construction site. The victim stated that several spools of construction material were stolen from the site during overnight hours. Taken was a 1000-foot roll of Romex wire, valued at $800.

6/10/2023—John O’Gorman, 57, of Summit was arrested and charged with simple assault. Mr. O’Gorman was processed and released with a pending court date.

6/10/2023—At 2343 hours a report was taken for a theft that occurred at a Bank Street park. The victim stated they left their purse at an outside table they were sitting at between 2230 hours and 2330 hours. When the victim returned to the location to retrieve their purse it was discovered approximately $100 in cash was taken.

6/12/2023—At 2111 hours a report was taken for a motor vehicle burglary at a Debary Place residence. The victim stated security camera footage showed an unknown individual enter an unlocked 2019 BMW X5 at 1943 hours. Nothing was missing from inside the vehicle except the center console was open and rummaged through.

6/12/2023—Chris Clement, 18, of East Orange was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and reckless driving, and numerous motor vehicle violations. Mr. Clement was processed and released with a pending court date.

6/14/2023—At 0745 hours patrol units responded to a Larned Road residence for an attempted burglary. A witness reported observing three males running out of a neighbor’s garage. Suspects were described to be approximately 5’9 feet tall, all wearing masks and hoodies. The suspects were seen entering and then fleeing the area in a white Audi sedan.

6/14/2023—At 1611 hours a Summit Police Department Detective located and began to follow a 2019 Audi A5 that was reported stolen. The vehicle was traveling at a high speed of rate on Rt. 24, sideswiping multiple vehicles before overturning by exit 9A Broad Street exit. Four juvenile suspects were apprehended. The driver was committed to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility. The juvenile passengers were released to the custody of their guardians pending a court hearing.

6/14/2023—Between 0910 hours and 1811 hours a 2015 black Acura MDX Wagon was stolen from a Springfield Avenue parking lot. The victim stated a key fob was left in the vehicle, making it possible to gain entry. The vehicle is valued at approximately $21,000.

6/14/2023—At 1852 hours a report was taken for a burglary to an unsecured motor vehicle parked on Broad Street. The victim stated upon returning to their vehicle it was discovered to have been entered and rummaged through. Items reported missing include one pair of Oakley wire rimmed black prescription sunglasses valued at $800 and $5 worth of change.
