Weekly blotter May 16 to May 28, 2023

5/21/2023—At 1927 hours a report was taken for a theft that occurred at a Beechwood Road business. The victim stated just prior to contacting police they left a purse on a table in Lyric Park while running to their car that was parked on Springfield Avenue. When they returned to the table, the purse was gone. Taken was a black Lululemon crossbody bag, valued at $58.

5/22/2023—At 2029 hours police arrested two juvenile males, ages 16 and 17, suspected of attempted unlawful entry to a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Waldron Avenue home.

5/23/2023—At 2051 hours a report was taken for a bicycle stolen from Tatlock field. The victim stated they last observed their bicycle on 5/19/23 at the field against a tree where it was left unlocked and unoccupied. Upon returning to the location to retrieve their bicycle, it was gone. Taken was a dark blue Priority Bicycle valued at $750.

5/24/2023—At 1219 hours a report was taken for a theft that occurred at an Upper Overlook Road construction site. The victim stated that the incident occurred between 5/19/23 and 5/22/23. Taken was 700 feet of copper wire, valued at $1500.

5/24/2023—Liza Sloan-Labarbera, 39, of Summit was arrested and charged with criminal mischief. Ms. Sloan-Labarbera was processed and released with a pending court date.

5/25/2023—William O’Connell, 19, of Summit was charged with criminal trespassing. Mr. O’Connell was issued a complaint summons and provided a pending court date.

5/25/2023—Alfred Williams, 18, of Summit was charged with criminal trespassing. Mr. Williams was issued a complaint summons and provided a pending court date.

5/25/2023—Nicholas Ryabenok, 18, of New Providence was charged with criminal trespassing. Mr. Ryabenok was issued a complaint summons and provided a pending court date.

5/27/2023—At 0729 hours a report was taken for a burglary to an unsecured motor vehicle parked at a Midland Terrace residence. The victim stated that when entering their vehicle in the morning the center console was open and rummaged through. After checking home security footage, they noticed that a sedan stopped in front of their house at 0309 hours on 5/27/2023 and two males exited the vehicle and ran up the driveway, entering the victim’s unsecured vehicle. Taken was an undisclosed amount of cash and credit cards.

5/29/2023—At 0946 hours a report was taken for a burglary to an unsecured motor vehicle parked at a Templar Way residence. The victim stated that sometime between 2100 hours on 5/28/23 and 0600 hours on 5/29/23 someone had entered and rummaged through their vehicle. At the time of the report nothing was noted as missing.

5/29/2023—At 1006 hours a report was taken for a burglary to an unsecured motor vehicle parked at a Linden Place residence. The victim stated that sometime during overnight hours someone had entered and rummaged through their vehicle. Taken was approximately $40.

5/29/2023—Jose Rivera-Fernandez, 63, of Elizabeth was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Summit. Mr. Jose Rivera-Fernandez was processed and released with a pending court date.

05/29/2032 – At 0150 hours a report was taken for a burglary at a Sherman Avenue residence. Suspects entered the home and removed fobs from a kitchen drawer. They then used the fobs to steal two secured vehicles, a 2023 Range Rover and a 2023 Mercedes GLS that were parked in the driveway.

5/31/2023—Theodore Chao, 75, of Summit was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Morris Plains. Mr. Chao was processed and released with a pending court date.

6/02/2023—At 2141 hours police responded to an activated residential burglary alarm at a Prospect Hill Avenue address. On arrival, an exterior check of the residence revealed a smashed first floor window. The interior of the residence was rummaged through and an undisclosed amount of jewelry was taken. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the burglary.

6/02/2023—At 2154 hours police responded to an activated residential burglary alarm at a Prospect Hill Avenue address. On arrival, an exterior check of the residence revealed signs of forced entry to a rear door. The interior of the residence was rummaged through and an undisclosed amount of jewelry was taken. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the burglary.

6/03/2023—At 0821 hours a report was taken for an attempted burglary to a Prospect Hill Avenue residence. The victim stated that the residence was vacant and a neighbor noticed a broken window in the rear of the home. An interior check of the residence revealed that the actors had not gained access.
