There was one stolen motor vehicle and two attempted vehicle thefts in Summit, NJ between Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
On Friday, April 14 at 5:16PM, Summit Police Department received a report of a 2019 BMW X5 that was stolen from the Huntley Tavern parking lot on 3 Morris Ave. Based on a witness account and surveillance video, a silver Audi Q7 entered the parking lot and a male wearing a bright green hoodie and gray pants exited the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect approached and entered the victim’s unlocked BMW. The suspect started the vehicle and exited the lot going east on Broad Street followed by the Audi. The victim’s BMW had been parked unlocked with the key fob in it.
On Saturday, April 15 at 6:45AM, Summit Police Department received a report from an Edgewood Road resident that a suspicious male wearing dark clothing, gloves and a face covering walked up his driveway and entered his unlocked 2023 BMW X5. The suspect was unable to start the vehicle as the key fob was not in it. The suspect took the homeowner’s garage door opener and exited the vehicle. He ran down the driveway and entered a waiting dark-colored BMW X6.
On Saturday, April 15 at 8:48AM, Summit Police Department received a report from an Edgewood Road resident that her unlocked 2021 Range Rover was entered and rummaged through. Nothing was reported missing. There was no key fob in the vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation by both the Detective Bureau.
