March 15, 2023 - The Summit Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Maple Street and Broad Street near the YMCA at approximately 4:52PM this evening.

Officers were called to the scene where they found a 14-year-old Summit boy with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim reported that he was crossing Maple Street at Broad Street in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when he was struck by a vehicle. The boy was transported to Overlook Medical Center by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad for treatment.

The driver, a 41-year-old Gillette woman, was proceeding west on Broad Street when she attempted to make a left turn onto Maple Street and struck the victim in the crosswalk. The driver states that sun glare was a contributing factor to the accident. She was issued a summons for failing to yield to the right of a way of a pedestrian within a crosswalk.
