Summit Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash with a pedestrian on Summit Avenue between Morris Avenue and Walnut Street at approximately 10AM this morning.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious male with serious head injuries. The victim, an 84-year-old Summit resident and landscaper who was working at a nearby property, was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad.

The driver of the vehicle, also a Summit resident, was proceeding south on Summit Avenue toward Morris Avenue when they struck the victim who was crossing the street in front of Paul Ippolito Memorial. They remained on the scene and are cooperating with police. The incident is under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
