The Westfield Regional Health Department is reporting 38 cases of COVID-19 in Summit, NJ from August 20 to August 26, as well as two fatalities in previous months.
• 6 cases aged 11 and younger;
• 5 cases ages 12 to 18;
• 1 case aged 19 to 24;
• 3 cases aged 25 to 29;
• 4 cases aged 30 to 34;
• 1 case aged 35 to 39;
• 4 cases aged 40 to 44;
• 3 cases aged 45 to 49;
• 4 cases aged 50 to 54;
• 1 case aged 60 to 64;
• 3 cases aged 65 to 69;
• 1 case aged 70 to 74;
• 1 case aged 85 to 89; and
• 1 case aged 90 to 94.
The first fatality was a 78-year-old, white, non-Hispanic male who died in July after being hospitalized. He was not vaccinated. The second fatality was a 91-year-old Asian male who died in June after being hospitalized. His vaccination status is undetermined.

As a reminder, COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Infected people experience a wide range of symptoms from mild to severe illness, including:
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Fever or chills
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
If you or a family member is experiencing any of these symptoms, remain home from work or school and get tested for COVID-19. Do not participate in sports or other activities – inside or outdoors - requiring close contact with others when feeling unwell.
