The City of Summit Common Council approved a proclamation at its May 2 meeting establishing May as National Drowning Prevention and Water Safety month in Summit. The campaign will be initiated by Summit Family Aquatic Center (SFAC) staff and is designed to increase awareness of safe water practices among residents of all ages to help prevent drowning and water-related illnesses and injuries. The SFAC opens for the 2017 season on Saturday, May 27.

As part of the ongoing national water safety campaign during the summer months, the SFAC will provide Summit residents with water safety tips, educational programs and events, including hosting the World’s Largest Swim Lesson on June 22.

In 2016, the SFAC received a Community Lifesaver Award from the National Drowning Prevention Alliance for its educational water safety videos, “I’m Watching Your Child, You Should Be Too,” Shark Diddy TV, Splash & Learn, and for its free life jacket rental and swim test programs.
