AAPI Heritage Month Event
**5/19 update: this event has been postponed due to rain** The second annual Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month event will be held on Saturday, May 20. The free event will take place from 5PM to 10PM on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad Street. All citizens are invited to attend to celebrate and learn about AAPI culture.
The entertainment stage will feature performances from groups in different Asian communities, including Bollywood dance, Kung Fu, Bhangra, Indian dance, and more. The event will also include a Holi celebration and a ceremony to honor accomplishments of the AAPI community. Food will be available for purchase from Four Monkeys Indian Bistro, Krazy Chef, Noon Tea Creperie, and Szechuan Delight.
Several community organizations will set up displays highlighting different aspects of AAPI culture, with heritage showcases, outdoor games, and other activities. To set up a display, contact David Guida at dguidajr@cityofsummit.org.
The planning committee for this event includes members from the City of Summit, the Summit Chinese American Association, and volunteers from surrounding communities.
Summit Has Pride
The annual LGBTQ+ Pride Month event, Summit Has Pride, will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 6PM to 9PM on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad Street in Summit.
Summit Has Pride celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in Summit and surrounding areas. The event will begin at 6PM with a drag show featuring 2022 performer Octavia Anyae, followed by a musical performance by Summit resident and former The Voice television series contestant Sabrina Dias at 6:45PM and the Boy Band Project in concert at 7:15PM.
The event will include educational displays from organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community, including a booth on the history of drag and pride. There will be special art activities, a temporary tattoo booth, and more. The event is free and open to all members of the public.

Juneteenth
The second annual Juneteenth event will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 2PM to 7PM on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad Street in Summit. This free event is open to all members of the public.
The event will feature different cultural performances on the main stage from 2PM to 5PM, including Double Dutch, Zumba, and a dance party with DJ Drubey. At 5PM, there will be a presentation by keynote speaker Jean-Pierre Brutus followed by the Juneteenth Flag raising and Jacob Webb in concert. The event will also feature food trucks, non-profit displays, activities, games and more.
The event is sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Summit PAL, Christ Church, and Atlantic Health. The planning committee for this event includes the Summit Department of Community Programs, members of Summit’s African American community, and the Summit High School Black Student Union.
