Upcoming PSE&G work in Summit
Upcoming work in the Central Retail Business DistrictThe next phase of the PSE&G project to replace aging gas pipes in locations throughout Summit is scheduled to begin on or about March 13 and continue through the end of June 2023. Upgrades to gas service in Summit are essential for the utility to continue to support a safe, clean, and reliable gas system in the future.
In this phase of the project, work will significantly impact the Central Retail Business District and include daytime work from 8AM to 5PM and overnight work from 8PM to 5AM on sections of Springfield Avenue, Maple Street, Beechwood Road, and Woodland Avenue, Deforest Avenue and Kent Place Boulevard in downtown Summit.

Monday, March 13 to Friday, March 24 from 8AM to 5PM: Springfield Avenue between Essex Road and Waldron Avenue
Monday, April 10 to Friday, May 19 from 9:30PM to 5:30AM: Springfield Avenue between Waldron Avenue and Morris Avenue
Beginning Monday, May 8, from 7AM to 5PM: Springfield Avenue between Morris Avenue and Waldron Avenue - Work will start on the section between Morris Ave and Kent Place Blvd and move east along Springfield Ave. A single lane closure will be required. Expect traffic and delays; consider planning an alternate route. 6/2/23 update: Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9: Springfield Avenue between Glenwood Place and Summit Avenue
Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 23 from 7AM to 5PM: Beechwood Road between Deforest Avenue and Springfield Avenue
Thursday, June 15 to Friday, June 23 from 7AM to 5PM: Kent Place Blvd between Springfield Avenue and Deforest Avenue, Maple Street between Deforest Avenue and Union Place, Beechwood Road between Springfield Avenue and Deforest Avenue, Deforest Avenue between Norwood Road and Summit Avenue
Police officers will be on site to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic. During construction and paving work, parking on affected streets will be suspended. Property owners and businesses will be notified by PSE&G prior to the start of project work and have access to driveways except during paving operations.

9/25/23 update: Over the next week, PSE&G crews will be replacing mains and services on the following streets in Summit, weather permitting:
Pearl Street between Ridgedale Avenue and Baltusrol Road
Wallace Road from Woodland Avenue to dead end
Morris Avenue between Briant Parkway and Shunpike Road
Road closures and detours will be in effect, and Summit police will be onsite to direct traffic. Work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7AM and 5PM, weather permitting.
