Working closely with the Mayor and Common Council, the Public Information Officer reports to the City Administrator and oversees external and internal communications, public relations and events, brand identity, as well as communications and marketing strategy for the City of Summit. The Department also manages the branding and direction of the City of Summit website and social media channels.

Summit residents are encouraged to join Nextdoor, free social network for Summit residents. Members are able to communicate with their neighbors about important, timely, community issues. This non-emergency social network can be used by Summit residents to share information about neighborhood events and occurrences such as power outages and road closures. It is also a useful way to receive updates and general information from both the City of Summit and Summit Police Department.
