Home Security Assessment Program

The Summit Police Department's Home Security Assessment Program is a new initiative to provide property owners with professional, targeted recommendations on safeguarding against burglaries.

Police officers that have been certified in risk assessment will meet with citizens at their residence for a free home security survey. The assigned officer will evaluate existing security measures, identify potential areas of weakness, and make recommendations for security improvements.

How it works

  1. Request an appointment for a free, in-person assessment via email to cpu@spdnj.org with the following information: name, address, phone number, and preferred day and time for the assessment.
  2. A member of the Community Policing Unit will respond to your email with a suggested date and time for the assessment.
  3. Meet with the assigned officer at your residence at the scheduled time.
  4. The officer will evaluate existing security measures, identify potential areas of weakness, and make recommendations for security improvements. After the appointment, you will receive a report with personalized recommendations for enhancing home security measures.
  5. Please consider completing this form after your assessment to provide feedback on the program.
